Making Good Habits

Scripture

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. - Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

A habit is something we do without even thinking. It’s a behavior that is developed through frequent repetition. First we form habits…and then they form us. We are what we repeatedly do! That’s why it is so important to focus on establishing healthy habits. Bad habits are detrimental and keep us from enjoying all that God has for us. However, good habits add joy, peace and purpose to our lives.

I’m not going to tell you that it’s easy. And if we’re going to make a good habit and break a bad habit, there’s going to be some effort involved. But it’s very important to understand from the beginning that we need God’s help to succeed. So, remember that we can’t do it without God!

Tip

“We all have habits. Some of them are good and some are bad. The good ones benefit us and add joy and power to our lives, while the bad ones do nothing but steal our peace and joy and prevent our success.”
—Joyce Meyer, Making Good Habits, Breaking Bad Habits

Study Suggestion

Think about one area of your life that you would like to make a good habit and break a bad one. Choose something and begin today. Stick with it until you have accomplished your goal, and then choose another and repeat the process. Don't stop until you have developed the habits you want to have. If you stick with it, you’ll get there!
