Continual Contentment

Scripture

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Are you trusting God at all times? It is one thing to trust God when we get what we want, but quite another to trust Him when we don’t. If we trust God at all times, then naturally that means we trust God in things we don’t understand and that don’t seem fair just as much as we do at other times. The apostle Paul said, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” (Philippians 4:11 NIV).

Being content when life hurts, or when we have to wait and don’t understand why, requires a belief that God is good and that His ways are different than our ways (Psalm 100:5; Isaiah 55:8). We may not always understand God’s ways, but we can honor Him by continuing to believe He is good and that His ways are always best.
