PROVERBS 25: BEING TRUSTWORTHY

Being Able to Depend on a Person Is Definitely Refreshing

Scripture

Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master. - Proverbs 25:13 (NIV)

Trusted friends and co-workers are extremely valuable. Sadly, many people today can’t be trusted to be discreet. When you can trust people to do something exactly as you ask them to do it, when you ask them to do it, you have a precious gift. Being able to depend on a person is definitely refreshing.

I love working with people I don’t have to check on to make sure they are doing what they should be doing. God is trustworthy and faithful, and we should strive to be the same way. Moses was a man God used in great ways, and Hebrews 3:5 describes him as faithful as a servant in all God’s house (NIV). If we want God to be able to use us, then He must be able to trust us. He often starts by giving us something small over which to be faithful. If we pass that test, then He gives us more (Matthew 25:23).

Zechariah 4:10 (AMP) says, Who [with reason] despises the day of small things (beginnings)?... This means you shouldn’t think any job is too small or any assignment is too insignificant for you. Put your whole heart into whatever God gives you to do, and as you are faithful in the little things, you will be put in charge of many things (Matthew 25:23 NIV).

Go Deeper in God's Word

Proverbs 25 covers a variety of topics: the value of studying God’s Word to discover greater wisdom, why we should wait for promotion with humility, being trustworthy, how to treat your neighbors and enemies, and self-control. As you read this chapter, take time to note the principles that will help you live a more godly life in these areas.
