PROVERBS 31: A ROLE MODEL TO FOLLOW

A Guideline for Your Life As You Pursue God’s Unique Plans

Scripture

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. - Proverbs 31:10 (NIV)

The Proverbs 31 woman is quite a role model for godly women. She is called “a wife of noble character” as you can see in verse 10. This woman seems to be absolutely perfect, but perhaps she is the ideal rather than someone who actually existed. King Lemuel’s mother may have been presenting her desire for what his wife should be like, but one thing is certain: The woman described in Proverbs 31 is amazing, and she is an excellent example.

Here are some of the characteristics she displays...

  • Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good all the days of her life (vv 11-12).
  • She is a hard worker and provides good food for her family (vv. 14-15).
  • She is skilled in business matters; she thinks about investments she’s considering before taking action and reviews her current responsibilities before taking on more (vv. 16-18).
  • She makes clothes for her family (vv. 13, 18-19).
  • She is generous to the poor and needy (v. 20).
  • She plans ahead and makes provision for future needs (v. 21).
  • She makes covers for her bed and is personally clothed in fine linen and purple (v. 22).

There are more characteristics of this excellent woman in this chapter that you will discover as you study it. While you may not be able to do everything she does or have all the gifts she has, consider her character and way of living as an example for you to follow. This description gives you a guideline for your life as you pursue God’s unique plans and purposes for your life.
