Adjust Your Sails

We Can't Control Everything, but We Can Control Our Response

Scripture

Constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength]. - Romans 12:12 (AMP)

The world is filled with discouraged, downtrodden individuals who could make their situations better by simply choosing to put their hope in God. Once we learn the power of hope and practice it, it is a hard habit to break. Just as people can form habits of being discouraged each time things don’t go their way, we can learn to encourage ourselves through hoping and believing that a blessing is right around the corner.

What we say and do in difficult times determines how long the difficulty will last and how intense the difficulty will become. We cannot control everything that happens to us, but we can control how we respond to those things, and choosing the right words and actions helps us do that. You can’t control the wind, but you can adjust the sails.

Today’s Thought:

Hope will motivate you to keep going when circumstances tell you to give up.

God, help me develop the habit of looking to You for hope, even in disappointing situations. Thank You for giving me the grace to harness my words and an attitude to start moving in the right direction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
