Do You Really Know How Much God Loves You?

For the section of this study, we are going to delve into specific biblical principles that pave the way to your total healing. Don’t rush through them; it’s okay if you need to spend a few days focusing on each one and praying for God to help you walk out the truth they reveal. God has so much for you, and you don’t want to miss one tiny bit of His amazing work in your soul!

Principle 1: You must receive God’s unconditional love for you!

God’s love is a gift—we can’t deserve it or earn it, and we can’t keep God from loving us. Love is not something God can turn on and off—it’s who He is and what He does! We see this as we dig in to the Bible and study what it says about the nature of God.

John 3:16 is a familiar scripture we use it to share the salvation message, but it’s also a powerful truth that reveals the greatness of godly love. It says…

For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trust in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. — John 3:16 (AMP)

The Amplified translation beautifully expresses the nature of God’s love: it’s so strong and fervent that He was willing to sacrifice His “One and only begotten Son” for us so we could have a personal, intimate relationship with Him and the assurance of eternal life!

John 3:17 reveals even more about God’s motive for reaching out to us through Christ:

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. — John 3:17 (ESV)

Think about what this is saying: Jesus didn’t come to make us pay for our sin…He came because of our sin…because He wants to save us and bring us into right relationship with God.

This is not the way we naturally think or feel as imperfect humans. We often care more about being right, making sure others know when they are wrong, and having them acknowledge their faults before we extend grace and mercy. And because we tend to behave this way, it’s hard for us to really trust and accept the unconditional love of God.

Joyce shares this about her journey to receiving a revelation of God’s love for her: “I used to be selfish, self-centered, always thinking about how I could get my way. And I was miserable! So I decided to study God’s love in the Word, pray for God to change my heart, and confess what His Word says about His love for me. After about a year of doing this, I finally got a revelation about God’s love for me.”

Notice she says it took a year of studying about God’s love in the Bible, praying for God to change her heart, and confessing the scriptures about love over her life before she had her breakthrough.

The point here is that we must be committed to diligently study the Word and spend time with Him on a regular basis to be able to receive everything He has for us…all of the healing we desperately need in our souls. It may not take a whole year for you to get the revelation of how much God loves you…or it may take longer. But if you won’t give up, you will experience His perfect, pure, unconditional love for you!

Begin grasping a deeper understanding of God’s love for you today. Each of the Scripture references listed below contains truth that will set you free to humbly, gratefully accept the gift of unconditional love. Look them up in various translations and make notes about what they reveal to you.

Keep in mind that these are personal messages God is speaking to you. Make them personal declarations you say out loud to get the truth deep in your heart. For example, confess John 3:16 like this: God so greatly loves me that He gave His One and only begotten Son to save me!
