Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on… — Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)

How do I move forward without looking back?
I Press On, I Move Forward
Scripture
Because of Jesus, who you are today is less about what you’ve done—all the missteps and mistakes—and now about your true self that Christ died to give you. Sure, you’ve made mistakes; we all have. Of course you can easily remember all the pain of your past (whether you’ve caused it or have been on the receiving side of it), that’s common to anyone starting their journey with Jesus. But because of Jesus, because of the life He died to give you, He gives another incredible option: the ability to focus forward.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
Think About These Two Questions
- Rather than focusing on your past regrets, what dreams and desires do you believe God has put in your heart?
- Where do you want to be and what do you want to accomplish—with God’s help—one year from today?

If you want to see change happen in your life, you must get a vision that goes beyond what you’ve already seen and experienced. Start with the promises of God’s Word; you can claim each one of them for yourself.
It may even be helpful to start a journal at this point along with reading the Bible to track your progress. Next week we’ll talk about emotions with the question: Should I feel any different?
