A Brand New Mind!

A Fresh Start Every Day

Scripture

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 (ESV)

Are you ready for this? God renews your mind! That’s right. He renews it (which means He makes it fresh every day). But it’s not something that just happens on its own. You have to wake up and ask God to renew your mind—for a fresh start each day!

Your mind is an incredible thing! It stores memories (remember the first time you learned to ride your bike), it helps you figure out math problems (5 + 5 is __ ), and it helps you understand the difference between right and wrong. But there’s a catch! If you are trying to do all of these things without asking God to help you, it can actually do the opposite.

Instead of helping, your thoughts can hurt you. You can remember things you shouldn’t (like feelings of guilt). You can spend too much time trying to figure things out instead of trusting God. And instead of being really clear and understanding something, you can feel all cloudy and confused.

God doesn’t want any of that for you! He wants you to have a clear mind—one that feels fresh and is ready to face anything! So how do you renew your mind? Read His Word and ask Him for help, and don’t do anything that you feel like God doesn’t want you to do.

Kid Prayer: God, my mind can be a place where too many things get jumbled up. Help me to empty all the bad stuff out at the end of each day and be refreshed and refilled with Your Word.

Parent Prayer: Rather than let baggage and insecurities set up shop in my mind, help me to apply Your Word to my thought-life and clear out anything that doesn’t belong there.
