I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. – Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
Store It Up!
Prepare Today for What Is Coming Tomorrow
Scripture
If you’ve never watched a squirrel or chipmunk gather acorns, you are missing a really fun sight! They run around, looking for more and more acorns to collect. And the reason? They are collecting food now to have later once winter sets in. They prepare today for what is coming tomorrow.
God’s Word is very similar. Sure, you don’t know everything that’s going to happen today. You’re not 100 percent sure about what’s going to happen tomorrow. But one thing that’s certain is this: You will need the help of His Word. And when you take the time (like you are doing right now) to study God’s Word and ask Him to help you at the beginning of your day, you store up more and more of the help you’ll need.
In other words, getting ready now is super-helpful for tomorrow. And when tomorrow comes, you won’t have to run around, all confused. You can be confident because no matter what comes your way, you have plenty of God’s Word ready to go inside of you, and you will make better choices because of it!
Kid Prayer: God, help me to fill up on Your Word now so that later on I’ll know what to say and do!
Parent Prayer: God, I will store up a great surplus of Your Word, and when I find myself in a tough parenting moment, I will look to that surplus to help me know what to do.
