What if all the people around you were preparing to stone you, as they prepared to stone David, and you had no friends or allies with you? What would you do? David encouraged himself in the Lord. I imagine he did so by remembering previous times when God had delivered him from dangerous situations, or he may have remembered some of the promises in God’s Word.
We all have times, as David did, when we need to encourage ourselves because there is no one else to do it. Remind yourself of how good God has been to you and of His promise to never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). He has told us that we can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).
When your mind says that you are not going to make it, speak aloud and say what God says: “I am more than a conqueror through Christ who loves me” (Romans 8:37). “I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10). The devil works diligently to make us feel overwhelmed, unable, and incapable, but he is a liar.
Prayer of the Day: Lord, please remind me of Your faithfulness on a continual basis. Strengthen me in times of loneliness and challenge. Help me encourage myself with Your promises and overcome every obstacle through Your power, amen.
