Caring for Refugees Displaced by War and Tragedy @tag2>
“Imagine waking up one day to the news of an invasion that will forever alter your life,” said David L. Meyer, CEO of Hand of Hope. “Within hours you must pack up only what you can carry and flee, probably leaving behind your family and friends. From this day forward, your life will never be the same.”
“I’ve met so many people who have spent a good portion of their lives in refugee camps—places where running water, proper sanitation, food and other necessities are sub-par, if they exist at all. It breaks my heart, and that’s why we do what we do.”
Through the support of our partners, we have served over 16 million meals to refugees worldwide. We have also provided shelter, fresh water stations, proper sanitation, clothes, household items, housing, education, free medical/dental clinics, and transportation to cities of refuge.
Matthew 25:35-40 says, “’For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’” (NLT)
Hand of Hope takes these scriptures very seriously. And in partnership with some of the best organizations worldwide, we work diligently to help people in all of these areas of need.
