Equipping China's Underground Church

Imagine living in a place where being a Christian puts you at risk of harassment, torture—or even death. That is the case for millions of believers today in China, North Korea, and other parts of the world.

Still these courageous men and women in China’s underground church put their lives on the line daily in order to preach the Gospel. 

That is one of the reasons it has been such a great honor for Joyce Meyer Ministries, Hand of Hope to be able to equip, support and encourage them in their ministries.   

For many years, we’ve had the privilege of working in China, where we’ve distributed resources to people in the underground church.

Joyce’s practical teachings from the Word of God have encouraged the people in their walk with God even as they face great danger for their faith. 

More recently, we have been blessed to provide USB drives filled with God’s Word in Joyce’s teachings, which they can memorize and share with others.   

And Joyce has even had the incredible opportunity to encourage many leaders of the underground church in person when hundreds of pastors gathered together for a time of refreshing and Bible-based training.   

Among those who gathered was Yong*, who has been imprisoned seven times for his faith.

For 10 years, he was away from his family, sleeping under bridges and traveling from place to place to share the Gospel. 

“We would go where we knew the Gospel had not been shared,” he says. During that time, about 100,000 people came to know the Lord. Life was far from easy, he says, but his mission was absolutely worth it.  

“When your whole heart is turned to the Lord and you’ve experienced God’s love and it’s in your heart, God’s love will hold you and you will have the strength to endure suffering,” Yong says.  

He explains that Joyce’s book Battlefield of the Mind helped him learn how to manage his emotions.  

“When I was on the run and I had to start from scratch (moving from location to location to share the Gospel), I was very discouraged,” Yong says.

“I prayed as I used the material and…I got victory over the emotional ups and downs.”  

Yong says Joyce’s teachings have helped many others grow in their walk with God.   

“It has been a big blessing for the church in China,” he shares.

“It has transformed people’s lives. Believers’ lives have been impacted, and marriages have been healed. It has really helped (the pastors) in their work. The Chinese church will forever be grateful.”
