The Lord our God said to us in Horeb, You have dwelt long enough on this mountain.

In Deuteronomy 1:2, Moses points out to the Israelites that their journey to the border of Canaan (the Promised Land) should have taken only 11 days, yet it took them 40 years to get there. Then in verse 6, he says, The Lord our God said to us in Horeb, You have dwelt long enough on this mountain. (AMPC)

Have you dwelt long enough on the same mountain? Have you, in a way, spent what feels like 40 years trying to do something that should have taken much less time? Have you been in debt long enough? Have you been overeating long enough? Have you held on to a grudge or to unforgiveness long enough? Have you put the pursuit of your dreams on hold long enough?

Have you let anger control you long enough? Let today be the day you decide to move forward in God’s plans and promises for your life. Even if you take just one tiny step in that direction, do something to get yourself off the mountain you’ve been on too long. God has success and many good things in store for you, so move toward them.

I believe the Israelites took so long to make a fairly short trip because of a “wilderness mentality”—certain thought patterns kept them in bondage. If you feel stuck and cannot seem to get where you believe God is leading you, ask Him to show you how to adjust your thinking.

Prayer of the Day: Father, show me where I have stayed too long. Give me courage to step forward and renew my thinking so I can walk in Your plans, amen.
