God’s Dwelling Place @tag1>
Adapted from Daily Devotions from Psalms
Lord, remember David and all his self-denial. He swore an oath to the Lord, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: “I will not enter my house or go to my bed, I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, till I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
David had a great passion to build a house in which God would dwell. As the situation turned out, God did not allow him to build it. Instead, the responsibility for building it went to David’s son, Solomon. Today we don’t have to build houses for God to dwell in because believers are His home. First Corinthians 6:19–20 (NIV) says: Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.
When I think about the fact that God chooses us to be temples, or homes, for Himself, by the Holy Spirit, it amazes me. He dwells in us and guides us; He teaches us truth, convicts us of sin, and convinces us of righteousness (John 14:17, 16:7–15). If we will simply listen to and obey the Holy Spirit in us, we will have powerful and enjoyable lives.
Because our bodies are temples of God, we should take good care of ourselves by eating properly, exercising, getting enough rest, and doing everything we can do to benefit ourselves physically. God wants to do a lot through us, and we should always remember that He is never far away. He is with us and in us, all the days of our lives.
Prayer of the Day: Father, thank You for living in me by the Holy Spirit. Help me honor You by taking good care of myself. I want to follow Your lead and cooperate with the work You want to do through me.
