Change the Conversation

Adapted from Quiet Times with God

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.

Rather than rehearse your problems, you can use today’s quiet time with God to start reciting His goodness.

Talking excessively about our cares or concerns does nothing to make them go away. All talking about our problems does is maximize stress. The more we talk about everything that could go wrong, the more we are turning up the volume on stress and turning down the volume on faith.

But something amazing happens when we change the conversation. When we begin talking about the power, goodness, and faithfulness of God in spite of our problems, our stress levels decrease.

It’s not that our words instantly change the circumstances we’re facing, but they have the power to change our attitude about those circumstances until the circumstances do change.

Prayer of the Day: Lord, please help guide my conversations to be more positive, hope-filled and full of encouragement so that I can face each day with joy and optimism, amen.
