An Undivided Heart @tag1>
Adapted from Daily Devotions from Psalms
Jesus said that the most important commandment is that we should love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and that the second most important is for us to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:30–31). God wants us to have a heart fully set on Him, not a divided heart that only partially belongs to Him and partially belongs to someone or something else. We may be interested in other things, but God should always take first place.
I’ve known many people who try to work in ministry while also working at a business or in another career, and this doesn’t work well. Eventually they must decide what they will give themselves to. People become worn-out if they try to be fully committed to two or more things. You might own a side business and be in ministry, but you would need to have someone run the business while you focus on God. I find that He takes all my time if I am going to properly do the job that He has given me.
Jesus knew the purpose for which He came to earth, and He focused on only that. When He called His apostles, they left everything else and followed Him. Be single-minded and set your heart fully on God, and He will be able to use you in great ways.
Prayer of the Day: Father, help me to always have an undivided heart that is filled with You first and foremost. You are the most important thing in my life, and I need and love You so much, amen.
