Help Is Here

- by Joyce Meyer

Life is full of questions, and we are all looking for answers. We wonder about “big” things like who we should marry, what career path we should take or the best way to raise our children. Every day, we’re also faced with hundreds of “little” decisions like what we should eat, how we should interact with others, how we should spend our time...and the list goes on.

I’ve discovered throughout my years in ministry that one of people’s greatest desires is to receive direction and guidance for their lives. I have heard the same statement over and over again: “I just want to know what to do!”

Well, I’ve got good news for you. God loves you, and He has provided all the help you need—the Holy Spirit is your personal Helper! He brings wisdom, guidance, direction, correction and instruction for every area of your life.

Whether it’s a big decision or a small adjustment, in both your long-term plans and your daily to-do list, regarding the deepest longings of your heart or just an everyday prayer for help, the Holy Spirit is your Counselor. He will show you what to do, and He will give you the power to do it.

Jesus gave us this promise in John 14:26 (AMP): But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things....

Notice those two words that Jesus used: “all things.” That means there is nothing too big or too small for the Holy Spirit. He will teach you all things as He leads you into the peaceful, powerful, joy-filled life Jesus came to give you.

I remember a time when Dave and I got into a pretty heated disagreement. I don’t remember exactly what we were disagreeing about, I just remember thinking that he was wrong, and I was right.

I was praying, asking God to correct Dave, but instead, I felt the leading of the Holy Spirit, a prompting in my heart, telling me to apologize. What? Why should I have to apologize? That isn’t fair, Lord! Dave should be the one apologizing to me!

In my own way of thinking, this is something I never would have considered. At that time in my life, I was more concerned about winning the disagreement than building my marriage.

But the Holy Spirit—my Helper—was guiding me. He was telling me to apologize. So that is what I did. And do you know what? It was the best thing I could have done!

You see, God was working on me. The disagreement was irrelevant. This was about learning to set my pride aside and be mature enough not to let petty differences with someone steal my joy.

It’s a principle I still live by today. When you learn to hear the Holy Spirit, He will show you things that will increase your joy, renew your peace and help you be more like Jesus on a daily basis.

Are there times when you need some help? Do you have days when you need direction? Are you facing a decision and you need some wisdom? I want you to know that the Holy Spirit is right here to help you!

When you feel like you can’t forgive the person who hurt you, the Holy Spirit will remind you that Jesus has forgiven you and give you the grace to forgive. Or when circumstances cause you to feel fear or worry, the Holy Spirit will pour out His peace and joy in your heart.

God hasn’t left you all alone to figure things out on your own. It’s okay when you don’t have all the answers or when you feel you don’t have the strength to carry on because the Holy Spirit will give you the answers, the encouragement and the strength you need to do all God has called you to do.

Remember, the Holy Spirit is your Helper. When Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father, God sent the Holy Spirit so you’d never be alone. He gives the wisdom, strength, peace, correction, instruction and guidance you need.
