Five Things to Say on Purpose @tag1>
Adapted from Beginning Your Day God’s Way
[The Servant of God says] The Lord God has given Me the tongue of a disciple and of one who is taught, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He wakens Me morning by morning, He wakens My ear to hear as a disciple [as one who is taught].
Our words can do serious damage to our relationships, careers, and the world around us. But with the help of the Holy Spirit, they can also bring great good. Here are a few tips to help you tame your tongue and shape your life:
- Use your words to bless. Avoid speaking negatively about yourself or others. Instead, speak blessings over everything. In other words, declare what God says.
- Be thankful and say so. Thank God for everything, especially if you are waiting on a breakthrough, and show gratitude to those around you.
- Encourage, edify, and build others up. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you who you can encourage. Ask for specific words that will build a person up.
- Tell the truth. Don’t compromise your integrity. There is no such thing as a little white lie. Commit to the truth, even when it requires sacrifice.
- Speak the Word of God out loud, faithfully. Nothing will help you fight the enemy like speaking God’s Word.
Prayer of the Day: God, help me honor You with my words today—to bless, to thank, to encourage, to tell the truth, and to speak Your Word faithfully. In Jesus’ name, amen.
