If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.

James 1 begins by talking about various trials we face. It seems to me that today’s scripture, verse 5, indicates that even if our trial or trouble is our own fault, we can ask God for wisdom to fix the situation, and He will do it without finding fault or reproaching us. God is so good that He is even willing to help us when our own foolishness has gotten us into trouble.

I think we typically hesitate to ask God for help when we have misbehaved. But He invites us to draw near and receive the help we need. We should learn from our mistakes so we won’t keep making them over and over, and we should also be repentant.

Just as we are always willing to help our children, God is always willing to help us. Even if He must discipline us in some way, it will be done out of love and with the intention of helping us learn an important lesson.

Always draw near to God and never shrink back from Him.

Prayer of the Day: Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus and thank You for Your endless grace. Help me learn from my mistakes and always draw near to You Help me to trust that You will guide me with wisdom and love.
