Maintain a Good Attitude

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

When negative things happen to you, determine to keep a positive attitude in the midst of them. If you make this decision and meditate on it during life’s good times, then when difficulty arises, you’ll be prepared to maintain a good attitude. For example, if an unexpected bill presents itself, make up your mind that you won’t complain about needing to tighten your belt financially for a few months to make up for it. Instead, decide to view the challenge as an adventure and find creative ways to cut costs and to enjoy life without spending money.

I recently heard about John, who was struggling financially but was also determined to keep a good, positive, and thankful attitude. John worked in a restaurant, and one day a customer had a heart attack while eating there. John had some medical training and administered CPR to keep the man breathing and his heart beating until the paramedics arrived. The man whose life was saved happened to be very wealthy, and he gave John five thousand dollars as a way of saying thank you for saving his life. The good attitude John maintained through his financial struggle opened the door for God to work miraculously in his life.

No matter what you may be facing today, choose to have a positive attitude—and watch what God can do.

Prayer of the Day: Lord, help me maintain a positive attitude no matter what challenges I am facing. Help me to trust that You are at work, even in difficult circumstances, to bring about good things in my life, amen.
