Lean on Him

Adapted from Hearing from God Each Morning

We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus [the leaning of your entire human personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness] and of the love which you [have and show] for all the saints.

God wants us to lean entirely on Him and to hear and obey His voice above all others; that is what faith really is. I love the definition of faith given in the verse for today and the fact that we lean everything about ourselves on the Lord.

We can lean on God to keep us in His will. I am glad about that because trying to stay in God’s will through our own strength is too difficult! I don’t know even one person who can honestly say he or she knows with 100 percent certainty what to do each day.

We can do everything we know to do to make right decisions. How can we know if we are right? We can’t. We have to trust God to keep us in His will, straighten out any crooked paths in front of us, keep us on the narrow path that leads to life, and keep us off the broad path that leads to destruction (see Matthew 7:13).

We need to pray, “God, Your will be done in my life.” I know some things about God’s will for my life, but I don’t know everything, so I have learned to stay at rest and peace by leaning on God and committing myself to Him and praying for His will to be done in and through me.

Sometimes we think only weak or frail people lean, but I have learned that leaning is a good thing if we are leaning on God.

Prayer of the Day: Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus and ask that You help me learn to lean entirely on You for everything I need to do, leaning on Your strength, instead of my own, amen.
