Trust God More Than Anyone Else

Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.

Have you ever been hurt or disappointed by someone you trusted because they were not there for you when you needed them most? Or maybe you trusted them to help you in an important situation, but they didn’t. I think we have all experienced this, but when we begin to think that any human being will never hurt or disappoint us, we set ourselves up to get hurt.

In John 2:24–25 (AMPC), Jesus says He did not entrust Himself to people because He knew them, and He did not need anyone to bear witness concerning man…for He Himself knew what was in human nature. [He could read men’s hearts.]

It wasn’t that Jesus didn’t trust people, but He didn’t entrust Himself to them. The difference is that He believed the best of them, but He also knew they could and probably would disappoint Him. He only totally entrusted Himself to Father God, because He is the only One Who is totally trustworthy.

Peter disappointed Jesus (Matthew 26:33–35, 69–75), and Judas disappointed Him (Matthew 26:21–25, 47–49). Jesus’ disciples disappointed Him because they fell asleep when He needed them to pray with Him in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:31, 36–45). Paul discovered he couldn’t trust those he had ministered to, because at his first trial, everyone deserted him (2 Timothy 4:16).

There are situations in which we should trust only God; He is the only One in Whom we can put our entire trust. Trust people and don’t be suspicious of them, but realize they are humans and may disappoint you.

Prayer of the Day: Father God, help me put my total trust in You alone and not in anyone else.
