Out of the Boat…and into the Cockpit

Answering God's Call Beyond Expectations

Dawn White

After I graduated from college, I was trying to figure out how to live my life as an adult. In the process, I worked various jobs and eventually became a flight attendant.

I wasn’t able to attend church regularly, so I was happy when I stumbled upon Joyce’s TV program. I really appreciated that she was practical and honest with her approach to explaining God's Word. Her teachings were full of insight but also easy to grasp.

One day, Joyce taught about “stepping out of the boat.” She said that when God calls you to do something, it’s important to step out in faith and trust that He will support you.

Joyce said, “I want to ask you a question: What is in your heart? I’m not asking what makes you comfortable, but what is in your heart to do? Don’t live a life where you don’t follow your dream.”

By the end of it, I just knew that I needed to step out of the boat when God called. So, I told God, “I don’t know what you're going to ask me to do, but I know that my answer is going to be yes.”

A Divine Connection

A few days later, I boarded another airplane for work. The captain introduced himself, then immediately asked me, “What are you going to do with the rest of your life?” I was taken aback because it’s normally not a question you get from someone you’ve just met.

I explained that I just got this job and was planning to kick back and relax for a little while. Then he said, “You should be a pilot.” I was confused and started giving him reasons why I couldn’t. I still had college debt. I just graduated and I didn’t want to go back to school already.

However, he was insistent and continued to explain the ins and outs of the process. He told me what ratings I needed to get, what to look for in a flight school and what my future might look like. At the end of the day I told him, “Okay, I promise I'm going to look into this.”

A couple of days later, I remembered what I recently told God about getting out of the boat. At that moment, I realized that He wasn’t just calling me “out of the boat”—He was calling me into an airplane!

My New Life…One Step at a Time

I began to focus on this new career. It was a long process and throughout the years there were times when I thought, God, I don’t know how this is going to turn out.

But I knew that He put me on this career path, so I wasn’t about to quit because something got difficult. I knew I had to keep going and God would continue to help me.

I can honestly say that my whole life is different because Joyce's teachings shaped it when I was in my 20s. If I hadn’t stepped out of the boat, I wouldn’t be a pilot, and I wouldn’t have met my husband and have my family.

I'm proud to be a partner with Joyce Meyer Ministries because they work every single day to take care of millions of people in so many countries. And maybe best of all, they share the Word of God everywhere they go.

It’s God’s Word that has changed my life, and I’m so happy to be a part of this family that is changing other people’s lives all around the world.
