by Joyce Meyer Ministries - posted July 30, 2012

  • Saturday, August 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the St. Louis Dream Center
  • Event will include free food, health exams, haircuts and entertainment

(St. Louis, MO) Thousands of St. Louis residents will come together this Saturday, August 4th, for the St. Louis Dream Center's Annual Back 2 School Blast. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., families can register their kids for school at St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) and receive free backpacks and school supplies. There will also be doctors and dentists on site to provide physicals, immunizations and dental exams at no charge. This carnival-like event will offer a variety of entertainment for the whole family. There will be rides, games, inflatables, face painting, a visit from the fire department and more. They will also have multiple organizations in attendance to teach kids about safety.

For many families in St. Louis, the start of a new school year is stressful. Thousands of kids in St. Louis cannot afford the backpacks and school supplies they need for the new school year. The Dream Center has seen this need and understands the importance of making sure kids have the necessities. "These kids should be able to focus on their education as much as possible," says Jeff Allensworth, director of the St. Louis Dream Center. "They shouldn't have to worry about whether or not they will have a backpack like their classmates on the first day of school."

This is the twelfth year the St. Louis Dream Center has hosted the Back 2 School Blast. Jami Allensworth, who oversees all of the outreaches at the Dream Center, says "So many of these kids don't attend school the first few weeks because they don't have what they need. This event provides them with the necessities, and they have a blast getting ready for the new school year!" This event kicks off many of the Dream Center's other outreaches that take place throughout the year.

Saturday's activities take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the St. Louis Dream Center:
4324 Margaretta Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63115
