ST. LOUIS, June 7, 2010 -


The St. Louis Dream Center will host St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, Department of Human Services Director William Siedhoff and other local officials for a press conference to announce the citywide kickoff of the 2010 summer meal program. The city's program, "The School's Out Café," provides free, nutritious meals to local residents 18 years of age or younger, and persons 19 or older who have been determined by a state or local educational agency to have a mental or physical disability. The summer meal program runs from June 8 through August 13, 2010.

This marks the third year that the Dream Center has been a principal host site for the federally funded summer feeding program serving over 4,500 meals in 2009. Program hours are 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Coupled with over a dozen supplementary meal programs that include food drops, a food pantry and an after-school feeding program, last year the St. Louis Dream Center provided nutritious meals to over 170,000 inner-city residents. Factoring in bread and produce giveaways, the number grows to more than 260,000 people helped.


An outreach arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries, the St. Louis Dream Center was founded in 2000 by Dave and Joyce Meyer to be a healing place for a hurting world. With nearly 40 thriving ministry programs, each year, the Dream Center reaches thousands of disadvantaged children and families impacting their neighborhoods and quality of life. In 2009, the Dream Center provided over 170,000 meals to the hungry and assisted thousands more who were homeless. Staff and volunteers also made over 45,000 visits, including children's outreaches, to area homes, nursing and retirement communities offering prayer, gifts, companionship and comfort.
