Kolkata, India: Festival of Life Conference

For four days in October, Jesus' name was proclaimed loud and free in the heart of Kolkata, India—one of the most populated cities in the world.

In the span of four days:

  • More than 213,000 people listened to Joyce share the Word of God at the Festival of Life
  • Over 42,000 people gave their lives to Christ for the very first time
  • 20,652 pastors, church members and volunteers attended daily leadership sessions

Four Nights of Praise and Teaching

Along with powerful teaching by Joyce, festival attendees were led in worship by Darlene Zschech and the Hillsong Band.

And we believe God placed the exact people He wanted there for each night of the Festival.

Local attendees said the opportunity to stand in the middle of the city and proclaim the name of Jesus gave them the encouragement they needed to keep going.

Ravi, a young worship pastor in Kolkata, said they've been praying for something like this for a long time. Ravi has a heart for the young people of India, so he's determined to reach out to the local universities and schools in Kolkata. "We believe a great change is coming for this city. This is only the beginning, so please continue to pray for India."

But the Festival was only part of our time in India.

Providing Free Medical Care

In conjunction with the Festival of Life, a medical team made up of volunteers provided five days of free medical care.

In the five short and amazing days:

  • 2,206 patients were treated
  • 456 dental patients received treatment and 661 teeth were pulled
  • 6,618 free prescriptions were distributed
  • 1,326 people gave their lives to Christ

Visiting Other Vital Outreaches

Our teams also had the opportunity visit several other outreaches that are happening on a continual basis throughout India. We met beautiful children who are fed five days a week at the feeding programs in Ghatkesar. Without these programs their parents simply wouldn't have the means to feed them regularly—if at all.

We also traveled to Chandrakal to visit with the people receiving vital medical care at the hospital and the children at Home of Hope, a home for children with HIV. In Muthyalapalli and Kolkata, we saw the benefits of the Well of Life projects, which provide a church and a fresh water well for the community.

Training for Women at the Transformation Center

Joyce also had the opportunity to visit with women at the Prem Karen Transformation Center outside of Mumbai. They caught up with Sanjay and his mother Ganga who we told you about a few years ago. Ganga is now a house mother helping women just rescued out of the commercial sex industry. Joyce had the opportunity to dedicate a new training center where the ladies will learn skills to support themselves financially when they leave the home.

Impossible to Do without Your Help

Thank you so much for your prayers and support that have helped make these trips so successful…and have helped us touch the lives of many all across the nation of India.

God is stirring hearts across this beautiful nation; people are receiving lifesaving medical care, and children are receiving the love of Christ. And your support is making it possible.

Hand of Hope is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our goal is simply to help as many hurting people as we possibly can, to alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith.
