One Life at a Time: A Look into Medical Missions

At one time or another, we’ve all heard the question asked: “Can one person really make a difference?”

There’s no doubt, when we look at all of the needs in the world today, it can be simply overwhelming. But more than ever before, God has given us a passion to reach out and help the hurting, the needy, the less fortunate and those who can’t help themselves.

Throughout the year we try to keep you as updated as we can about the things you are helping make possible—whether it’s helping the homeless on the streets, feeding children around the world, bringing the Gospel to two-thirds of the world through television, or one of our many other missions outreaches.

Well, we want to encourage you with what is happening on the medical missions field. We can hear a lot of numbers and statistics, but sometimes we can lose sight of the fact that every number represents a person…every number represents a life that we have helped to change.

So, can one person really make a difference? We challenge you to see for yourself…

Healing for the Spirit, Soul and Body
Many people have so much pain in their lives that they can’t hear what we say until we help relieve their suffering. That’s why we are firmly convinced that we must go armed and ready to help hurting people. When we meet people’s physical needs, it opens the door wide for us to address their spiritual needs.

Our medical clinics are a great example. Since 2007, we have held temporary two-week clinics in nations like India, Mexico, Cambodia, Peru, Ethiopia, Haiti. Just this summer our team traveled to Papua New Guinea to bring medical care to some of the most remote and primitive areas in the world.

Here, we were able to meet most of the patients’ needs all under one roof. After being examined and treated, they had lab work done and even picked up their prescriptions at our pharmacy, free of charge.

But perhaps best of all, these makeshift examining areas many times become a spiritual hospital for the hundreds that pass through each day. In fact, in 2008 alone we had more than 4,000 people give their lives to the Lord during our medical missions trips!

Lives Changed
People’s lives are being changed in so many ways…people like Angel (who was unable to speak) came to our clinic in Peru for parasite medication. He was healed in his speech after team members prayed for him.

And for women like the lady we met in Haiti who was pregnant with twins, about to deliver and had never had an ultrasound. We found one of the babies was breeched and rushed her to the local hospital.

With your help, we’re not only providing these clinics, but we are helping tens of thousands of people each year through partner-funded hospitals in India, Ethiopia and Cambodia, a mobile dental truck in the United States, a medical boat along the Amazon River, and so many other outreaches worldwide.

A Note from Joyce
“In this day and time, I believe God is simply looking for people who are willing to believe big…people who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get busy with the work of the Kingdom.

I believe you are some of those people.

Dave and I are so proud to call you our friends and partners. This side of heaven, we may never be able to completely convey just how much your support is accomplishing worldwide…but we are going to try. Why? Because you are the ones God has called to join with us in ministry…and you are the ones who are making it all possible.”

Thank You
So can one person really make a difference? Absolutely. Your support is helping people every day. We want to say thank you for your continued support, because there are still many more that we hope to reach.
